Quick Write

We are told to imagine what the world will yield for us in 400 years. But the question to consider is this: how can we try to picture the future when our beloved world is on the verge of destruction? There have been many predictions by civilizations of the possibility of an apocalypse with the most prominent being the Mayan’s claim of doomsday. But we need not pay attention to these claims when we, the citizens of Earth, are incessantly intoxicating the very atmosphere and disintegrating the Earth’s surface. The planet that has taken billions of years to shape and served for thousands of years as humanity’s home shall be no more due to the insular view of humans. The guardians of Earth that the Bible depicts us to be are ironically the very culprits accountable for its destruction. In the recent centuries, our species has recklessly taken the world as granted, and placed individual gains over the fate of the world. The environment has not been placed as a top priority and so it is very likely that the habitat of all of humanity will be in abject conditions. Though we will have technological advancements and such, they will only temporarily hinder the rate at which our ecosystems will deteriorate lest we take great consideration to the extremity of our actions. For now, what most nations have demonstrated does not boost my confidence for a bright future. Unless the current population does come to realize the full potential of the environment, then I am afraid we shall not be welcomed by a bright future. But if they do not heed these warnings, perhaps there will not even be a future.

Conditioning Video--The Office

The Office version of Pavlov's experiment on Dwight. This was conducted similarly to Pavlov's conditioning of his dog with the replacement of mints every time the computer reboots.

DESPARITY

Upon my arm rests my solemn face
Eyes, staring hopelessly
Frustration clouds me
Throwing shadows across my vision
My mind is frail
My hope is killed
LIghts blow out
With a quiet shout

Editor: Selina Liu
Literary Device: Oxymoron "quiet shout"
Two Senses: Sight, Sound
The poem is in the point of view of the man. The message for the audience or reader is that the man has reached an abyss in his life.

Do Seek Their Meat From God

Roberts' short story projects two interesting point of views that, in some way, oppose each other. First, the narrator explains the panthers' motives and reasons for their actions, which seem perfectly reasonable. Then, the narrator proceeds to express the thoughts of the man. This provides a vantage for the reader in which the reader can explore both sides of a conflict and truly understand a story to its full scale. The author makes the whole plot very interesting in this sense because the reader can see the whole set up that leads to the conflict between the panthers and the man.

What Is Love?

That’s a good question.

For me...

Love is the driving force that helps you accomplish the impossible.

Love is sacrificing yourself to make her happy.

Love is summoning up the courage to say ‘I love you.’

Love is being honest to her always.

Love is trusting her.

Love is seeing her as perfect while overlooking her imperfections.

Love is the willingness to let her change you.

Love is letting her run around in your head unrestrained.

Love is thinking about her and wondering whether she’s thinking about you too.

Love is doing things for her you never would have done before.

Love is walking her home when you’re freezing but knowing its all worthwhile.

Love is talking to her at 2 in the morning not letting her know you’re sick or tired.

Love is doing stupid things in front of her, knowing it’s okay.

Love is knowing when she’s sad.

Love is being happy when she’s happy and making her happy when she’s down.

Love is letting her put her work before you.

Love is getting jealous when she talks to other guys.

Love is giving her space and hiding your reluctance.

Love is never apologizing because you wont do anything to hurt her.

Love is not just stating what love is monotonously but reflecting it in what you do.

Even though sometimes you can’t do anything about them,

Love is always listening to her problems and standing by her side.

And you know you’re in love when the words just flow to you when you start defining what love is.

And of course, love is knowing which bubble tea she likes.

Riding in the subway, as opposed to hiking in the woods, allows people the chance to venture in the busy metropolis that is the densely packed inner city. Where busy passengers gaze around, they can feel the menagerie of the whole atmosphere as others come and go, rushing to their own destination. The fast-paced, adrenaline-filled periods when people squishing by each other and getting to their stations, as they try to catch the next train to arrive, calls upon more physicality than a simple hike in the woods. Stepping in to the train, the unintended bodily contact and the forced diminish of everyone's personal space as the people in the back desperately squeeze in fearing to be left behind, all accumulate to the sense of physical as Kate Braid puts it. Perhaps their use of the subway as their means of transportation may seem mechanical and far from physical, but the external contact that they get from their fellow train takers and the need to stay in balance when the train motions counts as a sort of workout as well.

I prefer the escalator just because its fun and because I can walk on that and still be faster than taking the stairs.
Watching a hockey game is cool but sweaty workouts always gives a sense of accomplishment.
More checking my e-mail than shovelling snow because Vancouver rarely snows.
